David is a Professor of Cyber Physical Systems at the University of Glasgow. He is the Head of Research Division for Autonomous Systems and Connectivity, within the James Watt School of Engineering. He is an Honorary Professor within the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences at Heriot-Watt University, and an Honorary Professor within the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, The Institution of Engineering and Technology, The Institution of Engineers in Scotland, Senior member of the IEEE (SMIEE) and former Chair of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Scotland.
David is also a member of the independent advisory boards of SP Energy Networks, Northern Ireland Electricity Networks, Cadent Ltd and an independent expert advisory group member of the National Energy System Operator. Providing independent advice and expertise in data and digitalisation of future critical networks, markets and services.
David’s research explores the challenges, opportunities, and underpinning technologies within Cyber Physical Systems. The vision of my group is to promote sustainability and create resilience in systems, organisations, networks and society. His research explores how to model complex adaptive systems and how emergent technologies such as Digital Twins, Artificial intelligence, Systems engineering, and Digitalisation can be used to discover and innovate solutions to complex global challenges.
